Book Description

In what theologians refer to as "the economic Trinity," the work of God and the work of Christ in salvation are well known. But the work of the Holy Spirit is seldom mentioned or explained.

In this rare Puritan work, Thomas Allen in ten sermons gives us the work of the Spirit. He convinces of sin, He reveals Christ's righteousness, and He draws sinners to Christ through the preaching of the gospel by faithful ministers.

Author and Editor

Thomas Allen was a faithful Puritan pastor and one of many who fled England to find freedom for gospel ministry in the New World. He settled in Massachusetts in 1638, where he served as assistant minister in Charlestown for 11 years and was later appointed a minister of Harvard College. His work reveals a deep burden for souls to be truly awakened, not merely reformed. Though many of his writings were printed after his death, they continue to call modern readers to turn from sin, long for Christ, and rest in the hope of the gospel.

Dr. Don Kistler, founder of the Northampton Press, was born in California in 1949, the second of five sons of Jack and Faye Kistler. He grew up on a dairy farm in Central California and graduated from Azusa Pacific College in Southern California in 1971 with a double major in public speaking and religion. He holds the M. Div. and D. Min. degrees, and is an ordained minister.
