The Greatness of the Soul
ISBN: 9781950611058In the contemporary era of materialism, many people deny the existence of the human soul. Others, who believe in the reality of the soul, frequently undervalue it.
In the gospels, the Lord Jesus poses the question, "What shall a man give in exchange for his soul?" In his riveting exposition, John Bunyan calls us to ponder the greatness and worth of our souls, lest we lose our souls unto our everlasting regret.
Author:
John Bunyan (1628-88) lived during the turbulent era of the English Civil War. Born into the family of a tinsmith, Bunyan served in the Parliamentary army at the age of 16. After his military service, he was married and attended a parish church, but found no rest for his soul. A religious awakening led him on a spiritual journey that lasted several years.
After Bunyan came to faith in Christ, he joined a separatist church in Bedford in 1655. Under the discipleship of his pastor, George Gifford, Bunyan began to preach in the congregation and elsewhere. Facing government hostility, Bunyan spent several years in prison for unauthorized preaching. He published many books based upon biblical and pastoral expositions, as well as works of poetry and allegorical literature. His most famous work, The Pilgrim's Progress (1678) has been reprinted in countless editions and translated into numerous languages.
