Book Description:

In Contending for the Faith, Joel Beeke and William Boekestein help children understand the struggle for reformation in England and how the Westminster Assembly sought to further the Reformation in that land. In this book, children will learn about the five documents that became key standards of Presbyterianism: the Form of Church Government, the Directory of Public Worship, the Confession of Faith, the Larger Catechism, and the Shorter Catechism. Although these reforms did not find a lasting place within the Church of England, they have remained formative for Presbyterian and Reformed congregations around the world.

Author:

Joel R. Beeke is a pastor of the Heritage Reformed Congregation in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is also the coauthor of the God and Me series of books for children.

William Boekestein is pastor of Immanuel Fellowship Church in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He is also the author of the following books for children: Faithfulness under Fire, The Quest for Comfort, and The Glory of Grace.

Illustrator:

Naomi Kamphuis is a self-taught artist from Gobles, Michigan. In addition to drawing, she is interested in photography, music, and all things outdoors.

Endorsements:

"Contending for the Faith tells children what the Westminster Assembly was and what it did. Key people are introduced. Colorful pictures illustrate a simplified story. Important quotes teach life lessons about doctrine, the church, and worship. I know one child who will have a copy in her hands as soon as this book is available!"
--Chad Van Dixhoorn, professor of church history, Westminster Theological Seminary, and director of the Craig Center for the study of the Westminster Standards

"Like with the previous books in this series on the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort, Contending for the Faith makes an important chapter of church history accessible for children. Confessional parents will want to have this book on the Westminster Assembly in their home library."
--Janie B. Cheaney, senior writer, WORLD News Group
