The sound of two trumpets echoes across the plain between the mountains. It is still early in the morning. The sun has just risen. In the tents of the Israelites the people are woken up by the sound. They come outside and look at the large tent, the tabernacle, which stands in the midst of their tents. That's where the sound comes from. What is going on?

Oh, they see it already. The pillar of cloud, which is above the tabernacle, has risen up. It is a sign from the Lord to show them that they must move on. That's what the blowing of the two trumpets means as well. Moses had made these trumpets from fine silver according to the commandment of the Lord. Only the priests are allowed to blow them. When one trumpet is blown, the most important men of Israel must go to Moses. If two trumpets are blown, then all the people are expected to go to the tabernacle where Moses also is. However, when the two trumpets sound an alarm, then the people must prepare to continue their journey. And that's what they hear now. They must travel further through the wilderness.
