Princeton and Preaching
James M. Garretson has done a great service to the church in treating the pastoral theology of Archibald Alexander. Making use of unpublished lecture notes of Alexander's course on pastoral theology, Garretson enables us to better understand the significant role ministerial training played in American church history. The information he uncovers will not only serve our historical understanding of Old Princeton, but will also assist pastors in their ministry.
He addresses such issues as the call to and qualifications for the ministry, preparation and presentation of the sermon, and difficulties and encouragements of Christian ministers.
