Such a remarkable mass conversion within a nation is unprecedented in the history of Christian mission. As a result the evangelical missions of Korea have been called "the missionary marvel of the ages." However, the short history of Korean missions was not without its share of tribulations and persecution. Its rapid growth through fiery events and trials is a testimony to God's faithfulness to toward his church, and His divine sovereignty in the preservation of His people.

Among the various church federations that were established in Korea through evangelical missions, the Presbyterian Church rose to become the most prominent among them all. However, after World War II, the Presbyterian Church endured a painful internal division due to infiltration of liberalism and apostasy committed during the Japanese occupation. But through the dark times, the Lord continually preserved and purified His church. This book was written to record the history of the Presbyterian Church in Korea (Kosin), from its inception, tracing its preservation through fiery trials and tribulations, to the present time. This book is a testimony of God's faithfulness in preserving His church throughout its entire history.

--S.G. In 1970 he was appointed as professor of Church History at the Korea Theological Seminary at Busan. He continued in that capacity until the Free Reformed Church of Armadale in Western Australia called him to become its minister. He served this congregation from February 19, 1978, until--at the end of 1980--it was divided into two separate congregations. He then ministered the section that became the church of Kelscott from January 1, 1981 to August 1987--among its membership still being called "the prof." Dr. Hur then returned to the country of his birth, and was the President of the Seminary for ten years. Then he was declared an emeritus-professor, which provided him with the opportunity to settle again in Australia.

Endorsements

"As [Dr. Hur's] friend I am pleased to recommend the reading of this book. It gives a clear picture of the impressive work of our Lord in Korea. I have heard much about the history of this church. But in this book of Dr. Hur's I received an overview of this history. THe path of this church is filled with wonders and surprises!...
